Labour absorption drops 8.33% in Q1 despite growing investment

JAKARTA. Investment realisation in the first quarter (Q1) of 2020 grew 1.2% to Rp 210.7 trillion, although labour absorption during the period declined 8.33%.

According to data compiled by IDNFinancials.com, the number of workers absorbed by the Rp 210.7 trillion investment was only recorded at 303,085. In Q4-2019, investment realisation reached Rp 208.3 trillion and absorbed 303,539 workers.

The Investment Coordinating Board (ICB) recorded that investment in Q1 was dominated by the transportation, warehouse, and telecommunication sector with Rp 49.3 trillion, followed by the base metal, metal goods, and non-machinery sector with Rp 24.5 trillion.

In Q4-2019, the largest investment contribution came from the electricity, gas, and water sector with Rp 30 trillion, followed by the transportation, warehouse, and telecommunication sector with Rp 27.9 trillion. (KR/MS)
