JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) arrested a Philippine-flagged foreign fishing vessel (KIA) that was conducting illegal fishing in the Celebes Sea on Friday (8/5). With that incident, KKP has arrested 33 illegal KIA, consisting of 15 Vietnamese ships, 9 Philippine ships, 8 Malaysian ships, and 1 Taiwan ship.

"We confirmed the arrest of 1 Philippine-flagged KIA that was arrested in WPP-NRI 716 Celebes Sea on Friday (8/5) at 11:35 WITA. The KIA is now in  PSDKP base in Bitung for further legal proceedings, " said Director General of Maritime Resources and Fisheries Supervision, Tb Haeru Rahayu as quoted from the.go.id page on Tuesday (12/5).

The illegal KIA is known as FBca CANTHER JHON, which operates a handline tuna fishing gear and is manned by eight crew members of Filipino citizens. The ship was arrested at coordinates 06 ° 24,401 'NU - 127 ° 40,329' East. The arrest was carried out by KP Orca 01 led by Capt. Priyo Kurniawan.

According to Tb Rahayu, the capture of the KIA shows that the performance of the Integrated Surveillance System (ISS) is getting better. The combination of conventional surveillance practices with vulnerability analysis using modern instruments and technology has given good results, one of which is the capture of the KIA. "This is one of the results of the 'modernization' of our surveillance system. At present the operation is designed effectively and efficiently by using adequate data, "he said. (LK/AR)
