JAKARTA. PT Pertamina EP, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero) is exploring the possibility of using perovskite as raw materials for making solar panels or Photo Voltaic (PV) which is considered more efficient than silicon.

Nanang Abdul Manaf, Managing Director of Pertamina EB, said the weakness of silicon that is widely used today is the low efficiency. "The efficiency is only around 7-16%, and it depends on the orientation of the placement and weather conditions," Manaf said in an official statement.

In addition, Manaf said that the perovskite could be a material for solar panels that can be placed on the roof. Because perovskite, said Manaf, can absorb light with various wavelengths.

"[Perovskite] is more productive in producing electricity than silicon PV panels," explained Manaf. (KR/AR)
