JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is committed to accelerating the application of industry 4.0 in the manufacturing sector. Through the Making Indonesia 4.0 program, the industrial sector can increase production efficiency and competitiveness, so that it can contribute more to the wheels of the national economy.

"Making Indonesia 4.0 is a strategy towards industry 4.0 with the transformation of digital manufacturing. The aim is to increase productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of national industries," explained Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Saturday (6/20).

When the program was implemented in 2018, the Ministry of Industry has determined five priority sectors that are encouraged to be the focus of the development of Making Indonesia 4.0. The five sectors are the food and beverage industry, textiles and apparel, automotive, chemical, and electronics.

In its development, the Ministry of Industry added the medical device industry and pharmaceutical industry sectors. "The inclusion of the medical device and pharmaceutical industry in the priority development of Making Indonesia 4.0 is one of the efforts of the Ministry of Industry to be able to immediately realize an independent Indonesia in the health sector," he added.

Thus, the medical device and pharmaceutical industries need to be encouraged to be able to meet domestic needs independently. Independence in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry sector is expected to contribute to the program of reducing imports by up to 35% by the end of 2022. (LM)
