JAKARTA - The manufacturing industry in the country began showing its improvement in June 2020. This is reflected in the Indonesian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI ™) released by IHS Markit. In the sixth month of this year, Indonesia's manufacturing PMI was recorded at 39.1 or an increase of up to 10 points compared to May at 28.6.

"We are optimistic that the performance of the national manufacturing industry will bounce back when it is operating normally, so that it can also restore economic growth more quickly," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Thursday (2/7).

Industry Minister explained, one of the reasons for the start of the enthusiasm of the domestic industry sector was because of a number of pro-business government policies, such as the provision of fiscal incentives. In addition, it is supported by new normal rules that help encourage domestic consumption.

"In the new normal era, changing people's spending behavior also impacts on the acceleration of digital business transformation, including in the small and medium industry sector (IKM)," he said. Based on Bank Indonesia data, there was a surge in online trade transactions of 18.1 percent to 98.3 million transactions in March 2020 with the total transaction value increasing 9.9 percent to Rp 20.7 trillion.
