BI extends operational adjustment phase until end of July

10 July 2020 09:52

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) has extended operational and public service adjustment phase until the end of July from originally July 15, 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The phase allows BI to speed up its RTGS service, the national clearing system, and cash operational services.

According to BI Director of Communications Onny Widjanarko, the extension is taking into account humanitarian and public health aspects. "This is also a result of coordination with the Financial Services Authority and actors in the financial industry," he said in a press release on Friday (10/7).

BI, he said, will evaluate the policy regularly by considering the development of the pandemic in Indonesia. He added that as the country enters the so-called New Normal era BI will always evaluate its operational policy to gradually improve productivity while still adhering to health protocols in order to prevent COVID-19.

"BI asks the financial industry, including Payment System Service Providers, to encourage a new lifestyle during the transitional restriction period, including by implementing health and COVID-19 prevention protocols both individually and at work," Mr Widjanarko said. (LK/MS)
