BCA will prioritize lending over write-off

JAKARTA. In an effort to maintain credit quality, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) will prioritize restructuring even though the bank also has another option, which is write-off.

President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja said that to restore debtors' financial performance, his party took a persuasive approach, through restructuring without having to remove books from the balance sheet. "If possible, we won't delete books," he said in a presentation on the performance of BCA in the first half of 2020 on Monday (27/7).

BCA has restructured Rp 595.1 trillion of credit in the first half of 2020.

Finance Director of BCA Vera Eve Lim said that in the first half of 2020, her party would write off books as another option in an effort to maintain credit quality on the company's balance sheet.

According to her, in the first half of 2020, the value of written-off loans is not much different from last year. According to BCA's financial report, it was revealed that the total credit written off in the first half of reached Rp 845 billion, and it stayed there until the end of 2019. This value was far smaller than the total record in 2018 of Rp10.36 trillion. (AM/AR)
