JAKARTA - Even though economic growth slowed down in the second quarter of 2020, the government will continue to boost it by increasing government spending. This was conveyed by Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs in Jakarta, yesterday (5/8).
"The government, citizens, businesses, including SOEs must be involved," said Airlangga.
He said that government's main strategy was to implement the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program to increase people's purchasing power. With this strategy, the economy is expected to recover in the third and fourth quarters of 2020.
The PEN program includes the distribution of social assistance, restructuring of MSMEs' capital loans, placement of liquidity funds in banks, and electricity incentives for industries social services.
Previously, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) released the data which showed contraction in Indonesia's economic growth by 5.32%. (LK/AR)
