The government has to take extraordinary steps to face COVID-19

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the COVID-19 pandemic forced the government to take a number of extraordinary steps to anticipate health and economic crisis. This was conveyed by Jokowi in the "Kick-Off Pemeriksaan Penanganan Covid-19 Sebagai Solusi Tangani Krisis" on Tuesday (8/9).

Jokowi said that the government was moving quickly to evacuate Indonesian citizens from infected area abroad, preparing hospitals, isolation houses, medicines and medical devices in a short time. Apart from that, the government also mobilized all personnel to uphold the health protocol in an extraordinary way.

"It must be done in a fast manner, with a simple procedure, for the safety of the people. Public safety is more important than a complicated procedure," said him.

In the economic sector, said Jokowi, extraordinary efforts have been made in the form of social assistance and cash assistance programs for unemployed people. (LK/AR)
