JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to spur the performance of the automotive industry amidst the pressure from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is so that the strategic sector can grow again and make a significant contribution to the national economy.

"We are optimistic that the performance of the automotive industry will develop positively in the second semester of this year. In the previous period, there was a slowdown due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Thursday (17/9).

The Minister of Industry said, based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) he received, car sales in the last three months had shown an increasing trend, after being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. "Sales of cars by retail or from dealers to consumers in August were 37 thousand units. That number is an increase compared to July of 35,799 units," he said.

Meanwhile, wholesale or distribution sales from Trademark Holder Agents (APM) to dealers in August 2020 were recorded at 37,277 units. This figure is up 47% compared to sales in July 2020 which reached 25,283 units.

Minister AGK added that his party is determined to continue to take strategic policies in an effort to minimize the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the automotive industry in the country. However, this needs to be done in coordination with the relevant stakeholders. (LM)
