JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the use of local resources as raw materials for the domestic pharmaceutical industry. Apart from being rich in biodiversity, this step also spurs import substitution and realizes the independence of the national drug raw material industry.
"To support these goals, we will strengthen the competence of technical implementing units (UPT) within the Ministry of Industry through the role of large centers in various regions," said the Head of the Industrial Research and Development Agency (BPPI) of the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi in Jakarta, Wednesday (23/9 ).
According to the Head of BPPI, one of the UPTs under his guidance, namely the Jakarta Center for Chemistry and Packaging (BBKK), has focused on natural-based pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations. The research results from BBKK Jakarta are expected to increase the added value of domestic raw materials which will lead to a contribution to the national economy.
Referring to BPS data, the performance of the chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industries experienced a brilliant growth of 5.59 percent in the first semester of 2020. In accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2016 concerning Acceleration of Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry in Indonesia, related ministries and institutions must synergize in developing an independent and competitive pharmaceutical industry.
