JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry initiated the Indonesia Food Innovation (IFI) 2020 program to spur small and medium industry (SMI) players in the food sector to be more creative in making new breakthroughs. One of the categories in IFI 2020 is End Products, which are followed by ready-to-consume food products with various innovations.

"IFI is a business acceleration program for selected food SMIs that have innovative products and / or processes and are made from local resources as the main raw material so that they are ready to become a marketable, profitable and sustainable food industry," said the Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) Ministry of Industry Gati Wibawaningsih in Jakarta, Tuesday (29/12).

The Director General of IKMA hopes that IFI 2020 can accelerate the increase in the competitiveness of food SMEs in the country to continue to innovate so that it is competitive in the domestic to global arena. Moreover, the number of food SMIs currently reaches 1.86 million business units or 43.41% of the total SMI business units in Indonesia.

Gati added, Indonesian food SMI products are wide open to be able to meet the domestic market and also to enter the export market. "Therefore, food SMI is expected to have the right readiness and strategy in improving quality, building branding, adapting, strengthening innovation, and being able to read current market trends and needs," he said.
