Barito prepares US$ 110 million in capex to develop geothermal power plant

JAKARTA. PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT) is preparing a capital expenditure (capex) amounting to US$ 110 million for this year for the development of a geothermal power plant (PLTP) from its subsidiary, PT Star Energy Geothermal.

In the near future, Star Energy Geothermal will carry out a geothermal exploration in Salak Binary, which this plant will have a capacity of 15 megawatts (MW).

Barito Pacific Investor Relations Allan Alcazar explained that the exploration of Salak Binary is still on schedule despite the Covid-19 pandemic. "The target for COD (commercial operation date) is still in 2022," he said, Thursday (14/1). Star Energy Geothermal will also carry out geothermal exploration in the new Sekincau area in West Lampung and Hamiding in North Halmahera, Maluku.

In last year's BRPT public expose, Star Energy Geothermal has three geothermal operations, namely PLTP Wayang Windu, PLTP Salak and PLTP Darajat. As of the third quarter of 2020, Star Energy Geothermal contributed US$ 394 million to BRPT. (AM/LM)
