Former anti-government activist gets a seat of commissioner at PTPN V

JAKARTA - Budiman Sudjatmiko, a former activist of People's Democratic Party (PRD), who was arrested on charges of committing acts of subversion in 1996, has now assumed the position of Commissioner of PT Perkebunan Nusantara or PTPN V.

According to data, compiled by idnfinancials.com, Sudjatmiko became a politician after joining Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in 2004. During 2009-2014, he served as a Member of the Indonesian People's Representative Council (DPR RI) for the electoral district of Central Java 8.

Based on PTPN V’s official statement, Sudjatmiko was appointed directly by Erick Thohir, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). For information, PTPN V’s shares are currently controlled by the Ministry of SOEs through PTPN III.

Meanwhile, Jatmiko Santosa, CEO of PTPN V, said that the appointment of Sudjatmiko as commissioner would support the company's business in the future. "His concern, to digitise agriculture and villages, is in line with us, related to the digital transformation process,” said Sentosa through a press release. (KR/VA)
