JAKARTA – PT Djarum, a cigarette manufacturer, collaborated with Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (TPIA) to use HDPE-infused hot mix asphalt on Djarum’s factory area of 39.000 m2 in Kudus, Central Java. It was announced by the Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs of PT Djarum in a press conference on Thursday (8/4).

“The action by Chandra Asri and PT Djarum was an example of a collaborative act to minimise waste and live sustainably,” the manager continued.

According to the manager’s statement, the asphalt uses mixtures of plastic bag trashes amounting to 7.1 million sheets. The HDPE-modified asphalt mixtures have also been applied by Chandra Asri in several locations, including Cilegon, Tegal, and Semarang.

Furthermore, this modified asphalt has 40% resistance, based on a study by the Research and Development Centre for Roads and Bridges of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. Djarum and Chandra Asri also partnered with the Indonesian Association of Plastic Recycle (lit. Asosiasi Daur Ulang Plastik Indonesia/ADUPI). (LK/ZH)
