JAKARTA – PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk (AMRT), the grocery store chain owner, is on the move to expand its Alfamart business in the Philippines. This year, the management targets to open at least 200 stores in the said country by the end of this year.

Anggara Hans Prawira, the President Director of PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk (AMRT), announced that the company would extend its business to the Philippines because the prospect seems highly promising. “There, the size of the stores (Alfamart, red.) is bigger, like Alfamidi. The difference in the sold goods between here and the Philippines is the availability of alcohol and limited fresh products, including chicken and vegetables,” Prawira claimed in a public expose, quoted Monday (10/5).

AMRT had established 32 stores in the Philippines by the end of Q1 2021. Despite the pandemic hitting the country, the business expansion is still running due to its favorable market. Now, the company owns 260 stores across the Philippines in total.

According to Prawira, the new store openings in the Philippines are less burdening as the location could be rented and paid monthly. In Indonesia, the lease should be paid in one go or maximum in two parts. (LK/ZH)
