Indonesia is in need of 2,500 electric vehicle charging stations per year

JAKARTA. The Indonesian government needs to establish 2,500 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) per year to meet the target of 25,000 new EVCS by 2030, as stated in the National Grand Energy Strategy.

However, the realisation of available EVCS in Indonesia is still so far from the said objective. According to the data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the current established EVCS only reached 5.88% of the yearly target.

“Thus far, there have been 147 EVCS in 119 locations,” Rida Mulyana, Director-General of Electricity of the ESDM Ministry, reveals after the launching of two new EVCS yesterday (6/8) in Jakarta.

Regarding the inadequate realisation of EVCS provision, Mulyana claims to try establishing the regulation concerning the supporting infrastructure for electric vehicle charging. “The Minister Regulation (ESDM Minister Regulation No.13) includes the points that guide the corporations’ responsibilities, permission process, electric schemes, electric tariffs, incentives, and of course, the safety measures,” Mulyana elaborates further in the official announcement.

As an additional record, the ESDM Ministry estimates that the number of electric cars in Indonesia in 2021 to reach 125 thousand units. Meanwhile, electric motorcycles are said to reach 1.34 million units. (KR/ZH)
