Pelindo 1 Sibolga modernization boosts economic growth

MEDAN - Pelindo 1 continues to make breakthroughs through modernizing the ports it manages as an effort to improve services, one of which is the development of the Sibolga Port located on the west coast of Sumatra Island.

These developments include: structuring a multipurpose terminal by expanding the pier for containers and general cargo, expanding the ferry pier covering an area of ​​400 m2, constructing a container yard covering an area of ​​6,000 m2, strengthening the pier, trestle, breasting dolphin, and installing dock cranes (fix cranes).

"The development and arrangement of the Sibolga Port is related to improving port performance. During the first semester of 2021, ship visits at Sibolga Port reached 423 calls, an increase of 13.4 percent compared to the first semester of 2020 which was 373 calls," said General Manager of Pelindo 1 Sibolga Branch, M. Eriansyah.

This shows that Sibolga Port serves ship visits with a total transportation volume of 947,823 GT (gross tonnage), growing 11.8 percent compared to the same period in 2020 which amounted to 847,636 GT.

In line with the growth of ship visits, the throughput also increased in the first semester of 2021. During the first semester of 2021, the throughput at Sibolga Port was recorded 759,491 tons, up 2 percent compared to the same period last year which was 745,182. (LM)
