JAKARTA - CIMB Thai Bank Public Company Limited ("CIMB Thai") and PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk (BNGA) announced that the two have cooperated in providing QR Code-based payment services between Thailand and Indonesia, following Bank of Thailand's collaboration with Bank Indonesia.

Starting September 2021, CIMB Thai will be one of the first three banks in Thailand to be selected as a settlement bank for cross-border QR-based payments between the two countries.

CIMB Thai customers traveling to Indonesia can take advantage of the CIMB THAI Digital Banking mobile application for real-time QR payments at traditional and online merchants in Indonesia. The same applies to CIMB Niaga customers traveling to Thailand who can use the QR payment feature on the OCTO Mobile digital banking application to pay for transactions in that country.

Meanwhile, President Director of CIMB Niaga Tigor M. Siahaan said, “With the wider scope of QR Code-based payments in ASEAN, it shows that financial integration in Southeast Asia is advancing thanks to digital-based innovation. It is an honor for CIMB Niaga, CIMB Thai and other banks in the CIMB Group to establish close cooperation with each other so that we can serve customers in the region better.”

In June 2021, CIMB Thai also announced its participation in providing a cross-border QR payment service network between Thailand and Malaysia, as part of the collaboration between Bank of Thailand and Bank Negara Malaysia. This is expected to continue to facilitate digital payments in the Thailand-Malaysia corridor. (LM)
