Ministry of Industry boosts product quality standards to optimize industry competitiveness

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry provides support to the industrial sector in order to optimize its competitive management through quality improvement. This is to be able to meet the quality requirements set by the market. In addition, the industry needs to innovate or optimize technology so that it can run an effective and efficient business.

According to the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, the Ministry of Industry initiated the application of standardization and optimization of industrial technology in order to realize the development of an independent, sovereign, advanced, just and inclusive industrial sector. "Strategic steps that have been taken include increasing the number of Indonesian National Standards (SNI), simplifying procedures for fulfilling SNI, and strengthening conformity assessment institutions," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday (22/9).

The Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi said, in the manufacturing industry, producers who are able to produce their products according to standard requirements will also get an increased perception of product quality. "That is, the standard also serves as a market signal to provide quality assurance for consumers," he said.

During the pandemic period, from 2020 to August 2021, the Ministry of Industry's BSKJI has shown its role in direct assistance to the development of industrial human resources by organizing various activities involving more than 46,000 participants from various industrial sectors. The 2nd series of BSKJI Bimtek was attended by 2,000 participants.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, in the second quarter of 2021, the performance of the non-oil and gas processing industry grew by 6.91%, in line with the positive national economic growth of 7.07% (LM)
