JAKARTA – The second stage of the Bangkanai Gas Engine Power Plant (lit. Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Mesin dan Gas/PLTMG) construction in North Barito, Central Kalimantan, has reached 90% until December 2021. General Manager of Western Kalimantan Development Unit of PLN, Didik Mardiyanto, announced the milestone in the press release quoted today (9/12).

It was mentioned that the company proceeded with the second stage of power plant construction despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the inaccessible construction location amid the rainy season. “The reliability of electricity supply in Central Kalimantan would be improved once PLTMG Bangkanai operated,” Mardiyanto added.

According to Mardiyanto, the investment for this project amounts to IDR 1.9 trillion, funding the power plant of 140 megawatts (MW), comprising two engine halls of 70 MW each. The domestic component utilisation in this project reaches 44.55%.

It was further mentioned that the Synchronisation Commissioning Recommendation (lit. Rekomendasi Laik Sinkron/RLS) for the entire power plant machinery had already been issued in October 2021. With the said certificate, the power plant would be connected to the High-Voltage Power Line of 150 kiloVolt (kV) of Bangkanai-Muara Taweh. “The power plant would support the power demand in Central Kalimantan of 196 MW and South Kalimantan of 558 MW,” Mardiyanto explained.
