JAKARTA. Bank Indonesia (BI) predicts that this year’s digital banking transaction may reach ID 49,733.8 trillion, increasing 24.83% year-on-year (yoy). Meanwhile, the transaction in 2021 arrived at IDR 39,841.4 trillion, jumping 45.64% yoy.

Perry Warijyo, Governor of Bank Indonesia, stated his vision after the Board of Governors Meeting last week, proclaiming that the 2022 digital bank transaction value will increase, although the jump will not be as significant as 2021. According to Warijyo, the digital transaction value in 2022 might reach IDR 49,733.8 trillion.

BI also noticed that the electronic money transaction value increased 49.06% (yoy) to IDR 305.4 trillion in 2021. Moreover, it will be projected to reach 17.13% yoy to IDR 357.7 trillion in 2022. Then, in terms of circulating currencies, they climbed 6.78% in December 2021 to IDR 959.8 trillion.

Warijyo also explained that the rapidly increased digital economic and financial transactions are supported by the enhanced public’s acceptance and preferences in online shopping, the popularity and the ease of access to digital payments, and digital banking acceleration. In the future, BI will continue the digitalisation process of payment systems to boost economic recovery and speed up the establishment of an inclusive digital financial and economic system. (AM/ZH)
