JAKARTA – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) discovered five illegal pawnshops in West Java earlier this year. Since 2019, OJK has terminated the operation of 165 unauthorised pawnshops.

Tongam L. Tobing, Head of Investment Alert Task Force (lit. Satgas Waspada Investasi/SWI), urged the public not to conduct any transactions with illicit pawnshops. “If people wished to make any transactions with pawnshops, please choose pawnbrokers that have licenses and listed on OJK,” Tobing said in a press release quoted Friday (18/2).

The unauthorised pawnshops in question include Bijak Gadai in Depok, West Java; Central Gadai Niaga in Bogor, West Java; KSP Gadai in Bandung, West Java; KSP Joyo Lestari in Bandung; and Gadai Elektronik in Bandung.

SWI is a task force comprising 12 ministries and government institutions. This task force is intended to enforce required law regarding the unauthorised financial institutions in order to minimise loss risks in the public. (LK/ZH)
