Ministry of PUPR begins construction of Mbay dam in NTT

JAKARTA - In order to support the food security program and increase water storage in the Province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Resources is building the Mbay Dam in Nagekeo Regency, NTT. The Mbay dam is one of 11 new national strategic project (PSN) dams that are planned to be built in 2021-2027 according to Presidential Decree No. 109 of 2020.

The construction of the Mbay Dam is divided into 2 packages. Physical progress of package I is 2.21% and package II is 0.83%. Package I was carried out by contractors PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk - Bumi Indah KSO and Package II PT Brantas Abipraya. Supervision is carried out by PT Indra Karya - Rancang Semesta - Sabana (KSO). The dam, which will be built in 2021-2024, will be built with a budget of IDR1.915 trillion. Later this dam will produce 0.21 m3/second raw water and provide irrigation benefits to 5,899 ha of agricultural land.

The construction of the Mbay Dam adds to the number of water reservoirs built by the Ministry of PUPR to support food and water security in NTT Province. Previously, since 2015, President Joko Widodo had completed and inaugurated three dams in NTT, namely the Raknamo Dam in Kupang Regency in 2018, the Rotiklot Dam in Belu Regency in 2019, and the Napun Gete Dam in Sikka Regency in 2021.

The construction of the Manikin Dam in Kupang Regency is being completed with a progress of 34.19% and the Temef Dam in South Central Timor Regency 56.27%. And the Kolhua Dam in Kupang City which will be built in 2022. (LM)
