JAKARTA - The automotive industry continues to show its resilience amidst the pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic, with one of its efforts to expand the export market. This step is believed to be able to accelerate the recovery of the national economy.

"We are targeting that by 2025 the export of four-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia can record 1 million units annually. Therefore, we ask for cooperation from the entire automotive industry in Indonesia in order to achieve this export figure," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the All New Honda BR-V export ceremony in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/3).

The Minister of Industry explained that the government was aggressively spurring the industrial sector to further increase the value of investment and exports in order to boost economic growth. Moreover, so far the industrial sector has consistently provided the largest contribution to the achievement of the national export value.

"We continue to strive so that Indonesia can become an export hub for industrial products, including in the automotive sector. One of the strategies is to expand the export market, which of course is done through an approach with the country to be targeted, "he explained.

The Minister of Industry expressed his appreciation to PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) as one of the pioneers of the automotive industry that contributes added value in Indonesia, including through export activities.

Prior to the Honda BR-V, PT HPM had exported Honda Brio to Vietnam and the Philippines since 2019. PT HPM had also exported Honda Freed to several countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Africa from 2009 to 2014. Apart from cars, HPM has also exported car components since 1992 to various countries including Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, Pakistan, Mexico and Brazil.

PT HPM will send the All New Honda BR-V to several countries in the Caribbean, namely Barbados, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Furthermore, PT HPM will also increase the number of export destinations for the All New Honda BR-V to around 30 countries around the world. In total, PT HPM will send as many as 6,000 units of the All New Honda BR-V until December 2022. (LM)
