Ministry of Industry facilitates jewelry SMEs to penetrate the global market

JAKARTA - The jewelry industry is one of the mainstay sectors in spurring the national economy through the contribution of foreign exchange from the achievement of its export value. Proven to be competitive in the global arena, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage increased market access for jewelry and accessory industry players so that their exports will increase.

"Amid the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the export value of Indonesian jewelry has actually increased by 76% from USD 1.47 billion in 2020 to USD 2.59 billion throughout 2021. Trademap.org data shows that the main countries for exporting jewelry from Indonesia include: Switzerland (35%), the United States (26%), the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong (11 percent each)," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Friday (19/8).

The Ministry of Industry also noted that the value of Indonesian jewelry exports increased in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. During January-June 2021, Indonesia's jewelry industry exports reached USD1.23 billion. That figure almost doubled to USD 2.37 in January-June 2022.

The JIJF 2022 exhibition is organized by the Indonesian Gold and Gem Jewelery Association (APEPI) on 18-21 August 2022 at the Assembly Hall, Jakarta Convention Center. This event will feature a wide selection of gold, silver, pearl, diamond jewelry, as well as precious and semi-precious stones, with a variety of high-tech designs. (LM)
