JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo accompanied by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi inaugurated the revitalized Halim Perdanakusuma Airport VVIP terminal, Wednesday (5/10). The inauguration was marked by the signing of the inscription as well as a brief overview of the new terminal.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the design of the new VVIP terminal carried local wisdom with a modern touch. This new VVIP terminal will increase Indonesia's confidence as a host when welcoming important state guests in the Indonesian Presidency at the G-20 Summit.

The Minister of Transportation further explained that Halim Airport is a vital object that was previously poorly maintained and needs to be revitalized. "We mapped out three problems, namely: a runway that has peeled off due to age, poor drainage, and an unrepresentative condition of the VVIP terminal building to show that the Indonesian nation is a great nation," he said.

Halim Airport resumed operations to serve commercial flights on September 1, 2022, following its revitalization since March 2022. Prior to its operation, the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Air Transportation has carried out a series of coordination with the Indonesian Air Force, AP II, Airnav Indonesia, and other related parties, to ensure aspects of safety, security, service, and compliance with all regulations are met.

Several trials of landing take off, certification, and calibration, have also been carried out before the runway is operational again. With a runway length of 3,000 meters, all types of aircraft up to Boeing 747 and 777 can land at this airport. (LM)
