Lau Simeme Dam targeted for completion by the end of 2023

MEDAN - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Sumatra II River Basin Center (BWS), the Directorate General of Water Resources continues to accelerate the completion of the Lau Simeme Dam construction in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province.

The dam with a capacity of 21.07 million m3 was built to support the fulfillment of raw water needs in Medan City and Deli Serdang Regency of 3,000 liters/second.

Head of BWS Sumatra II Mohammad Firman said, currently the total construction progress of the Lau Simeme Dam has reached 62.71%, with the progress of each for the evasion tunnel at 100%, the spillway and intake at 86.05%, and main dam of 4.5%.

"It is targeted that all of them can be completed by the end of 2023 and after that the impounding can begin," said Firman.

As one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) established by President Joko Widodo, the Lau Simeme Dam began construction in 2017 at a cost of around IDR1.3 trillion. The construction of the Lau Simeme Dam was built through two work packages, namely Package 1 carried out by PT Wijaya Karya - PT Bumi Karsa (KSO). Then, package 2 was carried out by the PT Pembangunan Perumahan - PT Andesmont Sakti (KSO). (LM)
