JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to improve the capability of the domestic machine tool industry because of its very important role for the manufacturing sector. Machine tools are capital goods that are very important in supporting the development of the machinery industry because they function to produce machine components and equipment with high added value.
Most of the machine tool needs for factories, workshops and education are still met by imports. Until now, domestic machine tool manufacturers are still producing simple light and medium duty machine tools.
“Factors that need to be encouraged from the machine tool industry are the mastery of technology and the quality of Human Resources (HR). These two factors are very important to be able to increase the production capacity of the sub-sector,” said the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics, Taufiek Bawazier, Thursday (11/3).
To optimize the development of machine tool industry technology, in 2020 the Directorate General of ILMATE has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Korea Institute of Advancement of Technology (KIAT) regarding the commitment of both parties to develop and increase the capacity and capability of Indonesia's machine tool industry and academics through MTIDC (Machine Tools Industry Development Center) collaborative project.
