Until September 2022, banks’ savings reached IDR 7,708 trillion

JAKARTA – The savings of 107 conventional banks as of September 2022 clocked up to IDR 7,708 trillion, increasing 2.1% from the beginning of this year. The savings in current and saving accounts gained popularity, while the savings in deposits, deposit on call, and certificate of deposit reportedly declined.

Based on the report of the Distribution of the Conventional Banks’ Savings, issued by Indonesian Deposit Insurance Corporation (lit. Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan/LPS) and quoted today (17/11), 36.8% of savings, or IDR 2,837 trillion, was placed in deposit. Then, saving accounts took up 32.8% of total savings, or IDR 2,530 trillion, while current accounts took up another 29.7% or IDR 2,292 trillion. Lastly, only IDR 46 trillion or 0.6% of savings was placed in deposit on call, and another IDR 2 trillion in certificate of deposit.

The savings above IDR 5 billion clocked up to IDR 4,017 trillion in value, followed by the savings below IDR 100 million of IDR 975 trillion, and the savings between IDR 200 million and IDR 500 million of IDR 647 trillion.

To put them in more detail, the savings between IDR 2 billion and IDR 5 billion reached IDR 628 trillion, whereas the savings between IDR 500 million and IDR 1 billion had IDR 550 trillion in value. Then, the savings between IDR 1 billion and IDR 2 billion reached IDR 481 trillion, while the savings between IDR 100 million and IDR 200 million clocked up to IDR 410 trillion.

Until September 2022, LPS mentioned that those savings were spread across 494,711,103 accounts. This number grew 32.8% year-on-year (yoy). For comparison, in December 2021, the savings in conventional banks amounted to IDR 7,546 trillion from 386,319,094 accounts. (LK/ZH)
