JAKARTA – The Indonesia Competition Commission (KPPU) is looking into two e-commerce platforms, namely Dagangan.com and Sayurbox, regarding the cooking oil price surge seen at the beginning of last year.

Based on the press release quoted today (26/1), KPPU calls in PT Dagangan Karya Indonesia (DKI/Dagangan.com) and PT Kreasi Nostra Mandiri (KNM/Sayurbox) as witnesses to hear their statements regarding the distribution of cooking oil from October 2021 to May 2022.

The testimony of those e-commerce platforms will be put against  PT Smart Tbk (SMAR), a packaged cooking oil manufacturer. The statement will be related to the mechanism of weekly purchase order (PO) of SMAR’s cooking oil products.

DKI stated that during the cooking oil scarcity, from October to December 2021, the increase of cooking oil price was seen as a result of the global crude palm oil (CPO) price surge from March to May 2022, which was ignited due to Ukraine-Russia crisis. (LK/ZH)
