JAKARTA – The expectation of consumers regarding the national economic condition within the next 6 months, starting from March 2023, rises. The Consumer Survey by Bank Indonesia (BI) shows the Consumer Expectation Index arrived at 133.5, increasing from 132.5 in February 2023.

In the press release quoted Tuesday (11/4), Erwin Haryono, Executive Director and Department of Communication of BI, mentioned that the index increased as the expectation of businesses and working opportunities rise to 133.6 and 131.1 from 128.8 and 130.7 in February 2023. The expectation of income in March 2023 declined to 135.8 from 138 seen in February 2023.

On the other hand, the consumer’s perception towards economic condition in March 2023 is at 113.1, higher than 112.4 in February 2023. The increased Economic Condition Index is propelled by shifts in several of its components, including Current Income Index from 118.5 to 120.4. Furthermore, Durable Goods Purchase Index and Working Opportunities Index each grow to 105 and 113.9 from the initial 104.7 and 113.8. (LK/ZH)
