JAKARTA – The industry of investment management in Indonesia has shown a positive trend, increasing almost 7% within the past 5 years. This growth is projected to continue to up to 10% in the next 5 years. Therefore, the opportunity blooms for companies active in supporting this industry, including PT Danareksa Investment Manajemen (DIM).

Looking at this much potential, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) or BRI was not hesitant in acquiring 9 million shares or 30% of PT Danareksa (Persero) in DIM, bringing its ownership to 65% last November. In December 2022, DIM initiated its integration process into BRI Group. As a result, on July 6, 2023, DIM officially transformed by changing its name to PT BRI Manajemen Investasi (BRI-MI).

The starting point of this transformation is marked with the launching event or new name and logo, titled “31th DIM bertransformasi menjadi BRI Manajemen Investasi (BRI-MI),” which was held close to DIM’s 31st anniversary. Present in said event, Catur Budi Harto, Vice Director of BRI, said that this name transformation and this collaboration could hopefully cater and answer to shareholders’ aspiration, especially those in the retail segment.

“Surely, with this name transformation, the aspiration of shareholders for BRI-MI will not change; it will still aim to be global standard investment manager that focuses on retail segment by serving both internal and external users of BRI, and prioritises digital services,” Harto explained.

Harto further said that since the integration took place, the total assets under management (AUM) of retail of BRI-MI have attained a market share of 5.6%. On the other hand, there are still some challenges for BRI-MI to solve, for example, the deeper penetration to BRI Group (captive market), targeting workers, users, or external of BRI Group, by increasing investment literacy and education (go-retail). Then, it also needs to synergise with related divisions of BRI or other subsidiaries, allowing BRI-MI to provide integrated service for the users.

On top of those, Harto wishes for BRI-MI to grow beyond the potential of this industry. “Therefore, we expect AUM to grow to IDR 100 trillion in the next 3 years, recording retail composition of around 40%,” he mentioned.

In accordance with this initiative, Marsangap P. Tamba, President Director of DIM, believes that this name change will strengthen the commitment of DIM to keep innovating and following the industry’s trend. BRI-MI is ready to offer the best value to it users, especially retail users, in Indonesia.

“The newly-attached massive brand of BRI will improve our organisational value and culture, as well as our future vision and mission, and expand our new visual identity even bigger, thus reinforcing our position as a part of BRI Group in the capital market and attaining our strategic purposes,” Tamba added.

Meanwhile, the Director of Finance and Risk Management of PT Danareksa (Persero), M. Teguh Wirahadikusumah, claimed that this transformation will give highest motivation in facing the challenges to attain future opportunities with BBRI and BRI Group.

“We will definitely be even more prepared to support the vision and mission of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) to become “The Most Valuable Banking Group in Southeast Asia & Champion of Financial Inclusion” and transform into an integrated financial service company that becomes a one-stop financial solution provider to meet financial demands of all Indonesian people,” Wirahadikusumah stated.
