JAKARTA - Indonesia's cocoa processing industry recorded strong performance in the second quarter of 2026 despite ongoing volatility in the global cocoa market, driven by fluctuating prices, shifting demand patterns and challenges in implementing sustainability principles.

According to the Grind Statistics Q2 2026, Indonesia's cocoa grinding volume reached 110,410 tonnes, up 30.1% from 84,844 tonnes in the first quarter of 2026.

Production of processed cocoa products also increased by 8.2% compared with the previous quarter.

The performance reflects the growing competitiveness of Indonesia's cocoa processing industry, while reinforcing the country's position as one of the world's leading cocoa processing hubs and a strategic partner in the global cocoa supply chain.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the government remains committed to strengthening the competitiveness of the cocoa processing industry as part of its downstream industrialisation strategy.

"The Ministry of Industry continues to accelerate the transformation of the cocoa industry through stronger downstream processing, enhanced human resource capacity, expanded partnerships between farmers and industry, implementation of quality standards, and faster adoption of sustainability principles," he said in an official statement on Friday (24 July).

He added that the continued expansion of processing capacity has further cemented Indonesia's position as one of the world's major cocoa processing centres.

Indonesia currently accounts for around 49% of the total cocoa processing volume in Asia, further strengthening the region's position in the global trade of processed cocoa products.

Meanwhile, Acting Director General of Agro Industry Putu Juli Ardika said the Indonesia International Cocoa Conference 2026 provides a strategic opportunity to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders to boost productivity and accelerate the transformation of the national cocoa industry.

"The Indonesia International Cocoa Conference 2026 is an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration to increase productivity, accelerate industrial transformation, expand market access, and establish an inclusive and sustainable cocoa production system," Putu said. (DK/LM)
