China to lift sanctions on EU parliament members to expand market

JAKARTA – The Chinese government is preparing to lift sanctions on several members of the European Union (EU) Parliament in a bid to improve relations with the bloc. The move comes as China navigates an escalating tariff conflict with the United States.
According to The Straits Times on Friday (25/4), Chinese Foreign Ministry officials stated that President Xi Jinping is working to strengthen ties with the EU as a reliable partner, distanced from ongoing tariff and defence disputes.
The lifting of sanctions on EU lawmakers is seen as a symbolic gesture by China to foster closer relations with the EU. As two of the world’s leading economic powers, China and the EU remain committed to upholding a multilateral trading system.
In addition, China will welcome more visits from EU parliament members to Beijing. (LK/ZH)
