BANGKOK – Indonesia and Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the health sector, marking a new milestone in bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The signing took place during the state visit of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto to Thailand, held at the Government House in Bangkok on Monday (19/5), and was witnessed directly by President Prabowo and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The MoU was signed by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Thai Minister of Public Health Somsak Thepsuthin.

The agreement includes cooperation in enhancing national health system capacity, responding to global pandemic threats, and collaborating in international health forums.

President Prabowo stated that the partnership was a vital part of strengthening joint resilience in the face of global challenges such as the emergence of new pandemics.

He also highlighted the importance of synergy between nations through development programmes, including cooperation between Indonesian Aid and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency.

“We have just witnessed the signing of an MoU in the health sector to enhance our cooperation and to strengthen our capacity. This is crucial in facing the potential outbreaks of future pandemics,” said Prabowo during a joint press conference with PM Paetongtarn.

Meanwhile, PM Paetongtarn expressed Thailand’s readiness to deepen its partnership not only in the health sector but also in the social and education spheres.

She noted that as part of the Global Health Group, Thailand and Indonesia shared a common vision to develop a stronger international cooperation framework on health issues.

“Thailand and Indonesia will continue to boost collaboration in health, education, and social affairs. We are ready to be Indonesia’s strategic partner in various international forums,” said PM Paetongtarn. (EF/ZH)
