JAKARTA - Badische Anilin und Sodafabrik/Baden Aniline and Soda Factory (BSAF) is committed to make investments in electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem in Indonesia worth USD 2.6 billion. This investment plan was announced during the visit of President Joko Widodo to Hannover, Germany, yesterday (16/4).

Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment or Head of Investment Coordinating Board, confirmed that BASF declared its interest in investing in EV ecosystem in North Maluku before President Jokowi. “The construction process will begin in late 2023,” he said in the press release Monday (17/4).

According to Lahadalia, BASF will cooperate with a French company, Eranet, to create an EV battery ecosystem and implement environment, social, and government (ESG) practices, as well as green energy.

On top of this, there are other companies in Europe that state their interest in making investment, including Volkswagen via PowerCo. Volkswagen will then form its EV battery ecosystem alongside other domestic companies.

Furthermore, Laadalia said that Jokowi’s visit to Hannover, Germany, is intended to show how open Indonesia is towards investitive initiatives from companies across the world. (LK/ZH)
