JAKARTA – Bersama Digital Data Centres (BDDC) officially held its topping-off of its latest data centre, JST1, in East Jakarta today (21/11). This downtown data centre is once again offering solution to the ever-increasing demand for digital infrastructure due to internet consumption surge in Indonesia.

Setyanto Hantoro, Commissioner of BDDC, said that the completion of JST1 went according to the target and fell within the planned time range. It is worth mentioning that JST1 construction has been started since August 2022.

“Our purpose with this data centre is to provide a platform of collaboration among digital industry players, thus driving the growth of digital economy,” Hantoro said. Furthermore, he mentioned the importance of support from government and associations in this digital development.

This sentiment is approved by Budi Arie Setiadi, Minister of Communication and Information of Indonesia, who joined BDDC in its JST Topping-off Ceremony today. “Digital transformation certainly calls for solid digital infrastructure; the potential of data centre in Indonesia is expansive,” he added.

Then, Muhammad Arif, Head of Indonesian Internet Service Provider Association (APJII), highlights the importance of collaboration between ISP and data centre owners, alongside the solution provided by the government. “As of now, the penetration of internet in Indonesia has reached 78%, and we record 1,008 ISPs. However, we should also talk about the quality,” he mentioned.

According to Arif, the data traffic in Indonesia has reached 6.8 TB. He also said that through this long-term partnership with BDDC, APJII is currently setting up new measures to handle the ever-growing internet data traffic in Indonesia. (ZH)
