JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto expressed appreciation for the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Indonesia following his inauguration as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia on 20 October 2024. Prabowo conveyed this during a joint press conference at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday (28/5).

“President Macron is the first head of state from the EU to pay an official visit to Indonesia since I took office as President,” he said.

According to Prabowo, Macron’s visit serves as evidence of the close and strong friendship between Indonesia and France.

He noted the special significance of the French state visit, as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. “Between the two nations, there already exists a deeper relationship — a strategic partnership that was launched in 2011,” he said.

Prabowo also stated his agreement to advance this relationship further by adopting a shared vision for 100 years of Indonesia–France ties in 2050. “This also reflects our commitment to enhancing cooperation in strategic sectors,” he added.

On the other hand, Macron extended an invitation for Prabowo to attend France’s Independence Day (Bastille Day) celebrations on 14 July 2025, bringing a delegation of Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and police (Polri) personnel to take part in the military parade. (LK/KR/ZH)
