Since Trump became president, egg prices in the US have fallen 61%

JAKARTA – Egg prices in the United States have dropped by 61% since Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th president on 16 January 2025.
According to foxbusiness.com on Tuesday (2/6), egg prices had surged in March 2025, ahead of Trump’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs on trade partner countries on 2 April 2025.
Data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) currently shows that large white-shelled eggs are selling at USD 2.52 per dozen.
This is significantly lower than the price in January 2025, which stood at USD 6.49 per carton. In fact, the price of large white eggs even hit USD 8 per dozen during the first week of March 2025.
According to USDA’s weekly publication, egg demand had increased ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, though the average remained lower, continuing a trend that began during the sharp price hike in winter.
In April 2025, a study by Clarify Capital reported that over 30% of Americans had stopped buying eggs due to the previous price surge.
The spike in egg prices at the time was attributed to the US government’s reciprocal tariff policies affecting dozens of its trade partner countries. (LK/KR/ZH)
