JAKARTA – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that Malaysian tourists were the largest contributor of foreign visitors to Indonesia in May 2026, with arrivals surging 43.4% month-on-month compared to April.

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, said Malaysian passport holders accounted for 21.58% of total foreign tourist arrivals entering Indonesia through main entry points.

“Malaysian passport holders accounted for 21.58%, Australians 11.22%, and Singaporeans 9.89%,” Ateng said in a press conference on Tuesday (1 July).

In addition to rising 43.4% month-on-month in May, the number of Malaysian tourists also increased by 25% compared to the same period last year.

Overall, foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia in May 2026 reached 1.38 million visits, up 10.69% month-on-month and 5.83% year-on-year.

From January to May 2026, total foreign tourist arrivals reached 6.07 million, up 7.68% compared to the same period last year.

“This achievement for January to May 2026 is the highest since 2020,” Ateng said.

Meanwhile, domestic tourist trips reached 106.16 million trips in May 2026, rising 8.83% month-on-month and 8.69% year-on-year.

On a cumulative basis, domestic trips from January to May 2026 totalled 523.2 million, representing a 2.86% annual increase. (KR/LM)
