JAKARTA – Total import as of August 2023 was recorded at USD 18.88 billion, shifting 14.77% from the import recorded in the same period in 2022 of USD 22.15 billion. Import reduction was seen in the oil and gas, as well as non-oil and gas commodities.

Based on Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) data quoted today (19/9), the import of oil and gas was recorded at USD 2.66 billion, whereas the non-oil and gas import totalled to USD 16.22 billion in August 2023. In August 2022, non-oil and gas import was USD 18.45 billion, and oil and gas import were USD 3.70 billion.

The import value in August 2023 was also 3.53% lower than the import value in July 2023 of USD 19.57 billion, consisting of USD 16.44 billion of non-oil and gas import and USD 3.13 billion of oil and gas import.

The importer of non-oil and gas commodities was China, contributing 31.99% to total import, followed by ASEAN countries of 16.84%, Japan of 9.25%, European Union of 7.5%, Australia of 5.51%, and other countries of 34.42%.

These countries remain unchanged from August 2022, in which China contributed 35.63%, ASEAN 15.77%, Japan 8.17%, European Union 5.59%, Australia 5.12%, and other 34.83%.

In July 2023, China was also the main importer with 33.77% contribution, followed by ASEAN with 15.94%, European Union 9.35%, Japan 8.64%, Australia 4.74%, and others 32.31%. (LK/ZH)
