ASII dominates 54% of national car market in Q1 2025

JAKARTA – PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) recorded car sales of 110,812 units in the first quarter of 2025. Although this marked a 7.39% year-on-year (yoy) decline from 119,662 units, Astra still dominated the national car market with a 54% market share.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Toyota and Lexus posted a 4.56% increase in sales to 69,296 units, while Daihatsu’s sales dropped to 34,999 units. Isuzu and UD Trucks contributed 5,911 units and 606 units respectively.
Despite the slight decline in Astra’s total car sales, its market share remained stable. “Amid the challenges in the automotive market, we continue to offer relevant vehicle choices for every consumer segment,” said Boy Kelana Soebroto, Head of Corporate Communications at ASII, in an official statement on Monday (21/4).
In the Low-Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment, Astra recorded sales of 28,294 units as of March 2025, representing a 69% share of that segment. However, this was down from 74% last year, in line with the broader slowdown in national LCGC sales, which fell to just 41,104 units in Q1 2024.
The sales decline was not limited to Astra. Non-Astra brands also saw a decrease, with total sales reaching 94,348 units—down 1.35% from last year. On the other hand, BYD and Denza recorded a combined sales increase to 8,242 units, while Chery’s sales surged to 4,399 units.
Overall, national wholesale car sales reached 205,160 units in Q1 2025, down from 215,250 units in the same period last year. (EF/ZH)
