JAKARTA – PT Harum Energy Tbk (HRUM) has set a lower coal production target of between 5.0–5.5 million tonnes for the 2025 fiscal year.

This target marks a decline from the company’s 2024 realised output of 6.1 million tonnes and sales volume of 6.0 million tonnes.

Harum Energy President Director, Ray Antonio, explained that this conservative target is based on a realistic outlook for the global coal market, which is expected to remain sluggish through the end of this year.

On the domestic front, the reduction aligns with the planned cutback in coal-fired power plants owned by PT PLN (Persero), as outlined in the 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL). The plan limits additional coal-based generation capacity to just 6.3 GW over the next decade.

“That space is rather limited in our view, and we have adjusted our 2025 production target accordingly to fit our main plan,” Ray stated during the company’s public presentation on Tuesday (27/5).

Ray emphasised that the main factors driving HRUM’s revenue and net profit in 2025 will be the realisation of average selling prices and cost-efficiency in production.

Amidst weakening coal prices, HRUM is focusing on managing production costs to maintain healthy operating margins. This strategy is expected to support the company’s performance despite the lower production target. (DH/KR/ZH)
