JCI ends July with a 10.51% gain
JAKARTA – The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) rose 0.8%, or nearly 50 points, to 6,236.13 on Friday (31/7), extending its gains for July to 10.51%.
Indonesia's benchmark stock index had previously declined consistently over the past six months, recording a cumulative fall of around 34% between January and June 2026.
Most sectoral indices advanced on the final trading day of the month, led by the basic materials sector, which gained 2.54%, followed by healthcare with a 2.43% rise.
Total stock market turnover reached IDR 18.26 trillion, with 32.45 billion shares traded across 1.95 million transactions.
Analysts at Phintraco Sekuritas said the JCI's gains on Friday were in line with broader Asian markets, most of which also ended higher.
Looking ahead to August, Phintraco analysts said in a note to investors that the market would be watching the release of several key economic indicators, including the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), trade balance, inflation and second-quarter economic growth.
"Technically, the JCI is expected to extend its gains by testing the 6,300-6,380 range next week," the analysts said.
Among Asia-Pacific emerging markets, South Korea's KOSPI led the gains with a 17.91% increase, having previously suffered a sharp decline over several trading sessions. Taiwan's TWSE followed with a 7.98% gain, while Thailand's SET index rose 1.58%.
In the foreign exchange market, the rupiah strengthened a further 0.49% against the US dollar to IDR 18,022 per USD.
The rupiah had previously weakened beyond IDR 18,100 per USD following the resignation of Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo. (KR/ZH)
