JAKARTA – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 7.45 million foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia during the first half of 2026, up 5.71% from a year earlier.

Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, said the increase was in line with June 2026 arrivals, which rose 0.32% month-on-month to 1.38 million visits.

"On a year-on-year basis, however, arrivals declined by 2.15%," Ateng said at a press conference on Monday (3/8).

By passport nationality, Malaysian visitors accounted for the largest share of foreign tourist arrivals in June 2026, with 258,690 visits, or 18.7% of the total.

They were followed by Singapore passport holders, who accounted for 12.3% of total arrivals, and Australian passport holders at 12.1%.

The number of Malaysian passport holders visiting Indonesia increased 9.42% year-on-year in June but declined 13.25% from the previous month.

Meanwhile, arrivals by Singapore passport holders fell 7.53% year-on-year but rose 24.26% compared with the previous month.

"The average spending per international visitor reached USD 1,285 per trip," Ateng said.

However, he noted that average spending per visit declined from USD 1,345.61 recorded in the first quarter.

Accommodation accounted for the largest share of foreign tourists' expenditure in Indonesia, representing an average of 37.21% of total spending.

Food and beverages accounted for 19.81% of expenditure, while shopping and souvenirs made up around 11.04% of total spending. (KR/ZH)
